Chemacheg Menukhi: Paddle Strong

Explore local Indigenous history and contemporary artistic practices through the new exhibit, Chemacheg Menuhki: Paddle Strong. Co-curated with Brittney PeauweWunnepogWalley (Nipmuc), the exhibit will include a fiber basket created by Walley that features iconography exploring the story of the 58 Nipmuc individuals housed on the property of John Hoar in Concord in 1675- 1676.

Weaving an Address

The Umbrella Arts Center in historic Concord Center will commemorate the semiquincentennial of the American Revolution and “the shot heard round the world” with an ambitious outdoor/indoor public and gallery art exhibition, Weaving an Address, curated by artist Marla McLeod. For the first time, Weaving an Address combines The Umbrella’s popular Art Ramble public art installation, on view April 15 through October 7 at Brister’s Hill in nearby Walden Woods, with an indoor exhibition on view April 14 through June 14 in The Umbrella’s Allie Kussin Gallery.

Louisa May Alcott and the Journey to Universal Enfranchisement

Meet at the Concord Town House to celebrate an auspicious moment in our history as March 29th marks exactly 145 years to the day that Louisa May Alcott -- famed authoress of Little Women and hundreds of other literary works -- became the first woman of Concord to cast a vote in a Town election! Join in the excitement within the very room in the Town House where voting took place, support the brave band of 19 other women who also voted for the School Committee on that triumphant day, and revel in the newfound empowerment these women achieved by actively participating in democracy as never before.

    The Unheard Voices of April 19, 1775

    On the morning of April 19, 1775, 71-year-old Martha Moulton witnessed a terrifying scene: hundreds of red-coated British Regulars marching into the town of Concord. These men were on orders from British General Thomas Gage to seize and destroy contraband military supplies stockpiled by the Provincial Congress. The ensuing conflict between the Regulars and Provincials sparked the American Revolution.
