Thelma

Thelma tells the story of a 93-year-old grandmother who loses $10,000 to a con artist on the phone who pretends to be her grandson. With help from a friend and his motorized scooter, she soon embarks on a treacherous journey across Los Angeles to reclaim what was taken from her. The action-comedy film made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and features June Squibb in her first starring role opposite the late Richard Roundtree. In this acclaimed satire, Monk is a frustrated novelist who's fed up with the establishment that profits from Black entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, he uses a pen name to write an outlandish Black book of his own -- a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.
