Event Description

On Sunday, April 20, 2025, 1,000 military personnel, first responders, and civilians from across the country will gather before dawn to honor their fallen comrades as part of the 2025 Tough Ruck held in partnership with the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) and the Boston Marathon. Participants will “ruck” 26.2 miles along the paths of the Revolutionary War, many in full military gear, including their rucksacks that weigh as much as 35 pounds on their backs. Tough Ruck raises funds for the Military Friends Foundation, a nonprofit that supports local service members and families of the fallen in times of need. The B.A.A. awards each Tough Ruck finisher an official Boston Marathon medallion. Finish line festivities include food vendors and kid-friendly activities. More information about the event is available at www.toughruck.org. Schedule: •6:55 AM – Opening ceremonies with senior military personnel, Families of the fallen military, and first responders •7:30 AM – Ruckers step off on the 26.2-mile certified course •12:30-4 PM – Awarding of the official Boston Marathon medals to Tough Ruckers finishers

Concord’s Minutemen of 1861: Captain George L. Prescott and the Concord Artillery

In the early morning of April 19, 1861, Daniel Lawrence rode into the town of Concord on horseback, rousing the town militia with orders to report to Boston in response to President Lincoln’s call for militia volunteers. The method and timing of this call were no accident.

Relations be Hanged: Frayed Loyalties to King and Family

Stand in the middle of Concord’s North Bridge with the Minute Man statue on your right and the British soldiers’ grave on your left. Place your hands on the rough wooden handrail in front of you; slightly to the left, you will see The Old Manse through the trees. Peer down into the Concord River that Ralph Waldo called “the dark stream which seaward creeps” and brace yourself: this tale is about to get rough.
