Event Description

The Umbrella Stage Company proudly presents TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, directed by Scott Edmiston and dramatized by Christopher Sergel, based on the book by Harper Lee.  Adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, To Kill a Mockingbird opens in a sleepy Alabama town in the midst of the Great Depression, where Scout and her brother, Jem, live with their widowed father, lawyer Atticus Finch. While the children act out stories and muse about their mysterious neighbor, Boo Radley, the facade of their seemingly peaceful town begins to crack when a young black man is accused of a terrible crime. Driven by an unshakeable moral conviction, Atticus defends the man in a trial that sends violent waves through the community, teaching young Scout about prejudice, compassion, and the courage to do what is right. This hard-hitting work is an all-new production of Harper Lee’s story that is timeless, lingering, and searingly relevant. A special KidCare Show on Sunday, March 15, will allow parents an opportunity to attend a matinee performance while their child(ren) ages 5-12 engage in art activities inspired by the show in one of The Umbrella's classrooms with an experienced teacher. Dinner & A Show packages are available for all Thursday night performances. Talk Backs are scheduled following the Sunday, March 8, and Sunday, March 15 performances. TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD is produced by special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing, Woodstock, Illinois.

Playing in Theater 144 at 40 Stow Street, Concord, MA from Friday, February 27 - Sunday, March 22, 2026 | Previews: Friday, February 27 & Saturday, February 28 | Press Opening: Sunday, March 1.

The Historic Peabody Building: A Gem in the Woods of Concord

The Peabody Building is part of Concord’s mid-century modern architectural legacy. Designed in 1968 by The Architects Collaborative (TAC) as an elementary school, it was opened in 1970 and served (along with the Sanborn building) for 55 years as the Concord Middle School. This building is the physical manifestation of the mid-century architects’ aspirations for the elevation of our society, starting with children and the design of their environment.

    Discover the Battle Road

This week, from Discover the Battle Road, allow us to introduce some Patriots whose names you might not know. "Local Patriots of Color in the American Revolution" presents the stories of colonists of African or Native American descent who fought in the first battles of the American Revolution. Though many of their names have been lost, their bravery and commitment remain a vital part of our nation's founding. "Revolutionary Valor: The Stories of David Lamson, Samuel Whittemore, and Hannah Hall Adams" brings to life the experiences of three Menotomy citizens who confronted the British soldiers on April 19, 1775.
