Something extraordinary happens when women come together around a shared purpose. Whether that purpose be social, political, or artistic, women’s voices carry a history, and their impact wields a transformative power. Concord Women’s Chorus has long known this and has nurtured and celebrated women’s voices since 1960, when a small group of women formed the Concord Madrigals to give women a chance to come together and express themselves through song.

Songs for a New World

6/20/25 7:30 pm to 6/22/25 2:00 pm EDT
The Performing Arts Center Songs for a New World
51 Walden Street
Concord, MA

Written by Jason Robert Brown, "Songs for a New World" is somewhere between a musical and song cycle - a series of songs all connected by a theme: the moment of decision. Characters range from the mother of a Revolutionary soldier awaiting the end of the brutal war to a young man in the Bronx dreaming of becoming a famous basketball player to a forlorn and neglected Mrs. Claus lamenting as Christmas approaches. A diverse cast and rousing score blends pop, gospel, and jazz with tight harmonies and darling vocals that transports its audience from the deck of a Spanish sailing ship bound for a new land to the ledge of a New York penthouse.

The Nature We All Call Home: Robert Macfarlane to Accept the Thoreau Prize for Nature Writing

Concord’s status as a Mecca for nature writers gains an international dimension this summer. The renowned British writer Robert Macfarlane will accept the 2025 Thoreau Prize on June 7 at the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord. The honor is given annually by the Thoreau Society to a writer whose work embodies Henry David Thoreau’s commitment to “speak a word for Nature.” In this year of celebrating the 250th anniversary of Concord’s role in the American Revolution, Robert Macfarlane will visit Concord to spark another revolution in how we see the world around us, calling on all of us to preserve our most precious legacy – the Nature we all call home.
