Whether you’re new to the writings of Henry David Thoreau or a lifelong fan of his work, you’re sure to enjoy the Thoreau Farm Reading Group. The group meets once a month on a Thursday evening to discuss one of Thoreau’s essays. The June 18 meeting will delve into “Slavery in Massachusetts.”

Tour the heart of the Concord Museum’s collection of objects used and made by Henry David Thoreau in the galleries, which display more Thoreau objects than have previously been on permanent display, and learn about his life in Concord and two years at Walden Pond. About the exhibition: Henry David Thoreau lived a boundless life, yet one that was deeply connected to nature; in particular, the woods surrounding Walden Pond. The Walden Woods Project Library is positioned in that same forest where Thoreau discovered his love of the natural world. This is the first of two exhibitions curated in connection with the Ewers Brothers Production, Henry David Thoreau, executive produced by Ken Burns and Don Henley, which premiered on March 30, 2026, on PBS stations nationwide.

Join author Ken Lizotte for a fascinating discussion of his new book, Walden for Hire: Business Lessons from Henry David Thoreau. Join us for a presentation about loons inspired by Thoreau's admiration for them at the Walden Pond Visitor Center Gallery on Sunday, June 21st, from 11 am to 12:30 pm.

DCR Wildlife Biologist Jillian Whitney and Loon Preservation Committee Outreach Coordinator/Biologist Caroline Hughes will discuss Common Loons, their distribution and presence in Massachusetts—including at Walden—and how we can protect them.

Join Professor Willsky-Ciollo as she explores how Thoreau was enmeshed in a decades-spanning project of crafting a theology of wildness. The focus of Thoreau’s theology—wildness itself—centers on the divinity extant in every person and in every molecule of creation.  In his writings, Thoreau leaves the door open to his readers, who he hoped would pick up the pen where he left off and write their own theologies of wildness.

Join the editors and essayists of Thoreau & Philosophy for a conversation exploring Thoreau as one of America's most profound philosophical thinkers. Beyond his literary and naturalist legacy, Thoreau’s work engages philosophical questions that remain deeply relevant today, shaping conversations about ethics, freedom, society, and the environment.
