The Art of Birds: Avians as Symbols, Stewards, and Storytellers. October 8 - December 4, 2024 Learn from our distinguished group of lecturers about the wonder of birds as inspiration for diverse artistic traditions, cultural storytelling, and effective social change. Explore new perspectives on bird art through a diverse range of subject areas and through the research and work of curators, artists, conservationists, and scholars, in this series of five free programs, which all take place via Zoom. All registrants will receive a link to a program recording after each lecture.

Beautiful Lands or “Belle Terre” focuses on three artists whose work is drawn directly from the Earth. Jonathan MacAdam captures the memory of a place and the tranquility of standing in a mesmerizing New England landscape, where the splendor of the sky is palpable. Jennifer Johnston presents her photographic series of light-infused flowing water and hardened rock, and Colleen Pearce exhibits enjoyable and fluid interpretations of geological formations and plant life using oil on yupo.

Winner of the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this darkly humorous play tells the tale of a woman's complicated relationship with her charismatic uncle as she discovers family secrets, navigates growing pains, and develops her own sense of right and wrong. Nov 8 - 23

Concord Conservatory asks: Why do you love the music that you do? Join guest speaker Susan Rogers, record producer for Prince and Barenaked Ladies, Berklee College of Music professor, and author of the book This is what it Sounds Like, as she guides us through what it means to be an active participant in our own listening experience.

Oriana Consort, a chamber choir of 22 voices, presents a concert exploring musical portrayals of personality and character.   Treasured acappella works of Claudio Monteverdi, Thomas Weelkes, Benjamin Britten, and Ivor Davies, a rousing West African arrangement by Rosephanye Powell, and a premier composition of Walter Chapin set to text written by John Lewis: Friday, Nov 22 at Trinity Episcopal Church.

This annual family-focused event celebrates children’s books and a love of reading through dozens of decorated story trees. Each tree features hand-made decorations inspired by a picture book. Visitors can explore the artistic trees, and families can sit and read together or do a festive scavenger hunt. Related events, including An Afternoon with Authors & Illustrators, CostumeCharacter Day, and Holiday Members’ Night will take place in December.
